About

The first Australian Intervarsity Choral Festival took place in 1950 when the Sydney University Musical Society and Melbourne University Choral Society joined forces for a combined concert. Over the past 75 years, the IV movement has grown to incorporate nine choirs, and annual festivals across the whole of the country. This incredible celebration of music and community is administered by the Australian Intervarsity Choral Societies Association (AICSA), whose invaluable support we gratefully acknowledge.

Following a six-year break since Adelaide IV 2019, IV returns in Sydney, hosted by the Sydney University Musical Society and the Sydney University Madrigal Society. Singers from all around the country will descend on Sydney to rehearse a concert from scratch. Most IVers are current or past members of the AICSA choirs, but anybody who would like to participate is welcome – no matter your choir experience or confidence level, we’ll all be learning together.

Arrival in Sydney: 16th January

We will be arranging accommodation with local choristers and community members for students, and others depending on availability.

Camp Dates: 17th-21st January

After a first night of billeting, we will be heading off to a campsite in the Nepean Valley, to sing and socialise at close quarters for five days. There’ll be music, there’ll be hanging out, there’ll be revue and competitions and lots of exciting social events. Then we’ll be returning to Sydney for more rehearsals, as well as our Academic Dinner (a chance to get dressed up, sing and celebrate).

Concert Date: 25th January

After a hectic, exhilarating week of learning music together, we’ll put on a concert to our adoring audience, and relish in a job well done. A few final events to say goodbye to all your friends old and new, and it’s all over – until next year…

Repertoire

We know you’re all keen to know what we will be performing, and we can’t wait to tell you, but we just need to finalise a few things first. Update coming very soon! Rest assured that it will be an interesting programme of achievable-but-challenging music, featuring some well-known composers but also highlighting some under-recognised talent.
